This N scale uncoupler tool is a handy, lighted solution designed for model train enthusiasts. It features a built-in fiber optic LED for night ops and tight spots, and it doubles as a small work light with two bright white LEDs and a red laser pointer.

We’ve tested this tool on both modern and older style couplers, including Arnold Rapido-style hookups on our personal layout. It works great with a gentle nudge in the right spot. Depending on the age of your rolling stock, some couplers may be tighter, but this tool helps uncouple cleanly without fumbling around.

The tip is interchangeable—you can use our 3D-printed fiber optic tip or switch to a long, needle-style tip based on what works best for you. While we didn’t test it on Kadee or knuckle couplers, it may work for some users.

Each uncoupler comes with a clip-on pen light body (battery accessible by unscrewing the keychain cap) and a press-fit 3D-printed fiber optic tip. Color may vary (Silver, Black, or Gold) depending on available stock.
